To the delight of everyone at Ty.phoo, on 3 June 1932 it was announced in the Birthday Honours List that a knigh\hood had been bestowed on Mr John Sumner, in recognition of his philanthropic services. These services include his founding of the John Sumner Trust and the Colehaven Endowed Homes for Gentlewomen. They also note his interest in the work of the Voluntary Hospitals in Birmingham and District and his presidency of the General Hospital, of the Birmingham
 
and Midlands Counties Nerve Hospital and of the Bromsgrove Cottage Hospital Miss Nelly Corbert, a valued employee of the company since 1920, said of the day; “As he walked into the big general office everybody stood up and cheered”.


To celebrate the occasion a party was held for the employees and each received a bonus. Bravo, Sir John Sumner.
